이 나무를 잘라냈어요! 앞으로 넘어져야하는데 옆으로 넘어져셔^^;"We took this tree down! It was meant to fall forward… but it had its own plan and fell sideways instead. 😅"

주님께서 민족들을 등록하실 때에, 그 수를 세시며 “이 사람이 거기에서 났다”고기록하실 것이다. (셀라) (시편 87:6)

어제 장로님과 교회 뒤에 죽은 나무를 잘라냈습니다. 작년에 사놓은 체인톱으로 순식간에 잘라냈습니다. 중간에 나무가 기울어서 톱이 물려서 쐐기를 사다가 잘라진 나무틈을 벌려서 톱을 빼고서는 쐐기를 더 힘차게 내려쳤더니 나무가 마침내 넘어갔습니다. 왼쪽으로 넘어지기를 기대했던 나무가 정면으로 넘어지면서, 옆집과 교회를 가르는 담벽락을 내리쳤습니다. 놀란 집주인이 뛰쳐나왔고, 서둘러 나무를 정리하고 보니, 4x2 나무와 철망만 교체하면 간단할것 같다는 생각이 들었습니다. 일단 일시적으로(코요테가 있으니)정리를 하고는 장로님이 이런저런 아이디어로 어떻게 고칠지를 계산을 하고는 내려왔습니다.

"아끼다가 째로 간다!" 는 말이 귓가를 멤돌았지만, 나무자르는데 보통 $2,000 정도 (사이즈에 따라, 제 계산은 이정도였어요 ^^;), 그런데 여기에 담벼락을 무너뜨렸으니 한 $200정도 돈이 들것 같으니 계산하면 그래도 이득이라는 계산으로 만족하며 돌아왔습니다.

아침에 마주한 오늘 시편말씀은 특별히 열린교회에 사역하도록 이끄신 하나님의 마음을 읽을 수 있었습니다. "이사람이 거기서 났다.." 저의 특별한 능력은 머릿속에 계산하면 이게 가능할지 안할지를 판단할 수있다는 것입니다. 단점은 판단은 했는데 디테일 하지 않아서 늘 어떤 사건이 하나씩 생긴다는게 문제입니다. 완벽하지 않지만, 일을 저지를 수 있는 능력... 이것도 능력이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 여기에 조금더 디테일한 사람이 함께 동역하면 효과가 크겠죠. 이 말은 절대 저혼자 일을 하는 사람이 아니라, 누군가와 함께 일을 해야 뒷처리가 깔끔해진다는 뜻입니다.

이 부족한 자를 사고만 치게 하지 않으시고, 장로님같이 또는 다른 분들을 통해 저의 무모함을 단돌이 하시는 하나님의 은혜를 오늘 시편에서 읽어냈습니다.

하나님의 은혜는 이스라엘 뿐만 아니라 모든 민족을 품으신다는 시온사상이 드러나는 시편은 우리들이 함께하고 생각이 달라도 함께하고, 능력이 달라도 함께하는 이유를 잘 드러내줍니다.

Psalm 87:6“The Lord will write in the register of the peoples: ‘This one was born in Zion.’ Selah.”

Yesterday, one of our elders and I cut down a dead tree behind the church. With the chainsaw I bought last year, it only took a moment to bring it down. At one point, the tree leaned and the saw got stuck, so we had to buy a wedge to pry it open and get the saw out. After giving the wedge a good strike, the tree finally fell.

We had hoped it would fall to the left, but instead it came down straight—right onto the fence between our church and the neighbor’s house! The startled neighbor rushed out, and we hurried to clean things up. Thankfully, after inspecting the damage, we figured it would be a simple fix—just replacing a 4x2 piece of wood and the wire mesh.

The phrase “Penny wise, pound foolish!” kept ringing in my ears. But as I thought about it more: tree removal can cost around $2,000 (based on size—my rough estimate! 😄). Even including the fence damage, it might only cost us about $200. So I left feeling strangely satisfied with the outcome.

Then this morning, I read Psalm 87, and I felt a deep resonance with God’s heart in placing me at Open Church."This one was born there…”

If I have one unique ability, it's being able to mentally calculate whether something is doable or not. The downside is that I often miss the details, which usually means something goes wrong along the way. But maybe even that is a kind of gift—the courage to act. If someone more detail-oriented works alongside me, the results can be so much better. In other words, I was never meant to do this alone. I need coworkers. I need partners.

And I see God’s grace in that. He doesn’t just leave me to my mistakes—He provides elders, colleagues, and companions who help clean up my messes and guide my impulsive energy toward something good.

Psalm 87 reminds us that God's grace isn’t limited to Israel alone. It points to Zion as a home for all nations. People with different backgrounds, different thoughts, and different strengths—all belong together. That’s why we serve together, even when we’re not the same.
